26 Days Until the 2008 Open
Sergio Garcia has never won a major, but has been a runner up a number of times including the 1999 PGA Championship and the 2007 Open. At the recent US Open Garcia finished tied for 18th place, which means he will have to work harder at The Open if he wants to finish higher than last year.
The majority of Garcia’s equipment is by TaylorMade and his Fairway Wood is the Burner TP Fairway. The Burner TP fairway has a tour-shaped clubhead with a compact footprint that promotes confidence at address and is preferred by tour pros. The superfast crown alignment is easy to aim and promotes increased confidence and accuracy.

Jim Furyk may have been one of the 12 golfers who finished tied for 36th at the recent US Open, but he is still a favourite to win The Open at Royal Birkdale in July. Furyk has finished 4th at The Open three times and last year finished tied for 12th.
Furyk uses Srixon golf equipment and his driver is a Srixon W-506 Driver. The Srixon W-506 Driver is the world’s first high volume driver to feature Srixon’s proprietary Impact Power Body construction, a remarkable advancement in driver design, where not only the clubface but the sole and backwall of the driver all have varying wall thicknesses. Complementing the W-506 is the proprietary Srixon SV 3004 graphite shaft which has been custom designed specifically for the W-506. The flex, torque and weight characteristics of the SV 3004 have been optimised for the dynamics of the W-506 design.

Padraig Harrington may have won The Open in 2007, but during this year’s US Open, he finished tied for 36th. Victory at the Open at Carnoustie last July has left Harrington with a voracious appetite for the winning feeling. And yet, apart from a relatively small invitation tournament in Morocco last October, he hasn’t won. He has played some excellent golf and been a consistent high finisher on the USPGA Tour with four top five finishes in eight events, but winning has eluded him and he may just have realised that the pursuit of perfection might be costly rather than rewarding.
Harrington’s wedges of choice are Titleist Vokey Wedges. Vokey wedges come in two types, Spin Milled and the Design 200 Series. Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges are unique new products that provide a truly discernible performance option, increased spin and control into and around the greens. Vokey Design 200 Series wedges are tour-proven wedges that are available in a broad range of loft, sole and bounce configurations to fit any swing type or course condition.

South Africa’s two-time US Open champion Ernie Els was edging into contention until a triple-bogey seven at the 15th ruined his chances and finished tied for 14th at this weekend’s US Open. Earlier this year Els officially announced that he was switching swing coaches from David Leadbetter, whom Els had worked with since 1990, to Butch Harmon who has revamped the golf swings of many established pros. During Els’ 2008 Masters press conference Els said the change is in an effort to tighten his swing, shorten his swing, and get a fresh perspective.
Golf wedges are clubs that are specially tailored and designed for the short game, which makes sense when you consider that approximately 70 percent of shots in a golf game are done from within 150 to 100 yards in. In other words, it is all well and good that you can drive over 250 yards from the tee, but it will not help you in your short game.
Els uses Callaway X-Tour Wedges. Inspired by two-time major champion Phil Mickelson, the X-Tour Wedges offer tour-proven precision for the more accomplished golfer. Legendary clubmaker Roger Cleveland worked closely with tour players to design the best-looking, best-performing wedges Callaway Golf has ever produced. Preferred by tour players, the new improved head shape creates confidence on full shots and on delicate feel shots around the greens.
Ever wondered how Nike research Golf Balls?
Have you ever wondered how Nike Golf research and develop the next stage in golf ball technology?
Do they:
1/ Employ highly intelligent Professors of Physics?
2/ Buy the very best testing labs money can buy?
3/ Spending millions on a super computer that can process 100,000,000 calculations per second?
Or 4/ Scrapping all the above and doing some of this:
30 Days Until the 2008 Open
As most of you will no doubt be aware, Tiger Woods has come back from the operation on his knee to find himself in the playoff for the US Open. Woods began the last day with his third double bogey of the week on the first hole. He followed that up with a bogey and was clearly in pain from the left knee that was operated on for a third time two months ago.
Woods had already shown, if anyone needed reminding, that he was capable of the sublime after firing 30 on the back nine on Friday and surging to the top of the leader board on Saturday with two eagles and a birdie in his last six holes. The world number one drew another exultant roar from the crowd when his putt dropped on the final green for a 73.
Woods’ putter, unlike the rest of his clubs, is the Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2. The entire Studio Style line of putters is the optimal blend of high-performance and classic design. The Newport Studio Style model is no exception. The Studio Style series incorporates a German Stainless steel inlay, adhered with screws and a hi-tech polymer, seen on the Tour proven Red X line, with precision milled 303 stainless steel. The success and winning reputation of the Newport 2 design is undeniable and this success is carried over into the Studio Style series. The new look of the Studio Style putter line promotes confidence with feel and performance that is distinctly Scotty Cameron.

Trevor Immelman may have won this year’s Masters, but he has never won at The Open. His best finishing position at The Open was tied for 15th in 2005. In 2006 Immelman won his first PGA Tour event at the Cialis Western Open, a result that moved him into the top 15 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Immelman uses Nike golf equipment and uses Nike ONE Platinum golf balls. The Nike ONE Platinum balls are inspired by the best players but are engineered for every player and are responsive to all swing types. If you are a serious player, Nike ONE Platinum balls are the golf balls for you. They are the first ball designed to maximise the potential of larger headed drivers by promoting a higher trajectory and a lower spin rate.
The ONE Platinum is not designed exclusively for drivers over 400cc; its distance off the tee, wind-boring control from the fairway, and responsiveness around the green will match any combination of clubs. Golfers who have made the move to a larger driver will experience the greater potential of the ONE Platinum.

Luke Donald has never won The Open and his best finish was in 2006 when he tied for 35th place. His best finish in the Majors was in 2005 at The Masters and in 2006 at the PGA Championship when he tied for third place. Donald is an enthusiastic painter and donated one of his pieces to a PGATOUR.com auction and the winning bid was $1,640, which was split between PGA TOUR Charities and junior golf charity in Chicago.
Donald’s golf equipment is supplied by Mizuno and he favours the Mizuno MP Wedge series. There are two types of MP wedge which are the MP-R and MP-T. The classic Teardrop wedge has been updated to include the highly versatile C-Grind sole design. The C-Grind sole is based on a favoured custom grinding of Mizuno’s tour players, allowing greater creativity around the greens. The T-Series profile features a straighter leading edge than the R-Series, an alignment aid favoured by many professionals. Unlike Mizuno’s irons, grooves are CNC precision milled rather than forged which provides the maximum traction allowed by the R&A. The R-Series delivers the purest touch and biting control unleashed by Mizuno.

Vijay Singh has had 3 victories in the Majors but has never won The Open. His best finish at The Open was second place in 2003. 2003 proved to be a very successful year for Singh. He had 18 Top 10 finishes and was the PGA Tour’s money leader beating Tiger Woods. He narrowly lost the vote for the PGA of America’s Player of the Year to Tiger Woods.
Singh uses a Never Compromise GM2 FM Putter. Originally recognised as the company whose putters incorporated three-piece technology, Never Compromise went back to the drawing board to update and modernise this extreme weighting system. The end result is the Never Compromise GM2 line of putters, which have strategically placed copper tungsten weights in the heel and toe to perfect their balance and raise their moment of inertia, or resistance to twisting. To further increase its stability, designers have positioned an aluminium-infused, composite weave insert into the face of each putter. Being only half as dense as standard aluminium, this high-tech insert allows for additional weight to be shifted away from the putter’s face while giving golfers a highly responsive feel.
