Teenager wins Women’s US Open
South Korean teenager Inbee Park became the youngest player to win the Women’s US Open with a four-shot victory at Interlachen Country Club on Sunday. Scotland’s Catriona Matthew was the best of the British players, finishing with a 73 to climb up to 17th. England’s Karen Stupples finished with a 75 and in a tie for 31st on five over, a mark that also included world number one Lorena Ochoa.
The 19 year old Inbee Park fired a two-under-par 71 in blustery conditions to clinch her maiden LPGA Tour title, eclipsing compatriot Pak Se-ri who won the tournament aged 20 in 1998. Park was the only player to break par in every round in securing her first win on the LPGA Tour. Her highest finishing position in an LPGA major was Tied for 4th in last year’s Women’s US Open.
