Ryder Cup 2008
The Ryder Cup is now back in the hands of the US team for the first time since 1999 after the European team failed to produce the kind of golf we had come to expect from them. On the final day two-time Open champion Padraig Harrington lost to Chad Campbell, Sergio Garcia lost to Anthony Kim and Lee Westwood lost to Ben Curtis.
Europe had been strong favourites going into the event after winning the last three Cups and five of the last six. The United States, meanwhile, were without injured world number one Tiger Woods as well as having a total of six debutants in their 12-man team.
The United States team won despite not having Tiger Woods on the team, further proving that the game of golf can go on without him.
The United States will defend the trophy at Celtic Manor, Wales in 2010.
There was further celebrating by some of the top golf brands such as Footjoy and Titleist who claimed the title of Number 1 golf shoe and Number 1 golf ball at the Ryder Cup respectively.
Footjoy are once again the Number 1 golf shoe at the Ryder Cup with 5 members of Team USA including Ben Curtis, Boo Weekley, Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan and JB Holmes and 6 members of Team Europe including Soren Hansen, Graeme McDowell, Robert Karlsson, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood wearing Footjoy golf shoes.
Titleist had 11 golfers using their golf balls, adding further weight to their Number 1 ball in golf status. Members of Team USA playing with Titleist golf balls were Kenny Perry, Ben Curtis, Boo Weekley, Steve Stricker, Hunter Mahan and J.B. Holmes and the members of Team Europe playing with Titleist golf balls were Padraig Harrington, Lee Westwood, Robert Karlsson, Soren Hansen and Ian Poulter.
Team Europe may have lost, but you can still be a winner with Europe’s Number 1 Footjoy retailer and Titleist Club Fitter of the Year 2007-2008, Golfbuyitonline.
