Monty to Lead Europe in 2010
The verdict is in and Colin Montgomerie has been named as Europe’s captain for the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.
The 45-year-old, an eight-time Ryder Cup veteran, was one of two leading contenders for the role along with 2008 vice-captain Jose Maria Olazabal.
The eight-time winner of the European Order of Merit will go up against Corey Pavin who was named as the United States captain for the 2010 event, last December.
Montgomerie has been selected for eight Ryder Cups as a player and has helped Europe to victory on five occasions.
He has never lost a singles match and has a match record of 20 wins, nine draws and seven losses – giving him a total points score of 23.5, only 1.5 points behind the all-time record held by Nick Faldo.
Despite the impressive statistics, Montgomerie was not one of 2008 captain Faldo’s wildcards for the Valhalla showdown, which Europe lost.
Montgomerie will be a popular choice in Wales, having supported the Celtic Manor Wales Open for several years, while also designing a course at the resort for owner Sir Terry Matthews.
Padraig Harrington Adds Another #1 to his Name
Padraig Harrington has signed up to a multi-year agreement with Footjoy and will wear the new Footjoy SYNR-G shoes which are available to order from Golfbuyitonline now.
A perfect combination of comfort and stability, SYNR-G is engineered for players such as Harrington who possess higher swing speeds and demand additional support and motion control in their golf shoes.
Long considered one of Europe’s most talented and popular athletes, Padraig has enjoyed a steady climb up the world golf rankings to his current position as the #4 ranked player. After capturing the Volvo Order of Merit as the top player in Europe in 2006, he validated that title by winning his native country’s championship at the 2007 Irish Open and then capturing his first major weeks later at the 2007 British Open Championship at Carnoustie. Harrington continued his fine form last year, winning two majors. He first defended his crown at the British Open at Royal Birkdale in July and then won the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills just weeks later. Throughout his career, Harrington has amassed 16 International victories, 5 PGA Tour victories, 3 major championships and he’s been selected to 5 European Ryder Cup teams.
Synergy defined is: a situation where the final outcome of a system is greater than the sum of its parts. SYNR-G shoes have a lot great technology that combine for greater stability than the individual components could provide alone.
Let’s hope that the Harrington-SYNR-G partnership amounts to greatness in 2009.
So as well as being Open Champion 2007 and 2008 and PGA Champion 2008, he now has the golf shoe champion for the past 55 years.

Japanese Teenager receives Masters Invite
Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa is set to become the second-youngest player at the US Masters after receiving an invitation.
The 17-year-old will be the youngest at Augusta since Tommy Jacobs appeared as an amateur in 1952 at 17 years, one month and 21 days.
The Masters, won by Trevor Immelman in 2008, takes place between 9-12 April.
Augusta National awarded Ishikawa the invitation it sets aside for international players.
It is an award that has gone to Asian-born players every year since 2003, when no such exemption was offered. Greg Norman was the last player outside of Asia to receive the special foreign invitation in 2002.
Ishikawa, the youngest player to break the top 100 in the world rankings, already was at number 60 and might have been able to qualify on his own depending on his results over the next two months.
He made history two years ago when he won the Munsingwear Open KSB Cup on the Japan Tour, becoming the youngest player to win on one of the six major tours around the world, before turning pro last year.
The size of the Augusta field is now 89, with Davis Love III, David Toms and J.B. Holmes, the only player from the Ryder Cup still not eligible for the Masters, still trying to qualify.
Odyssey Crimson Putters
Odyssey made its mark with the White Hot line—a series of putters with a white polymer face. Now it seems that they’re moving on with the Crimson Series—putters with a red insert.
The Odyssey Crimson putters each feature a Crimson “Stronomic” insert that generates firm feedback and responsiveness. Other than that, I have to say that they look pretty much like a lot of other putters in the Odyssey line.
There are three Odyssey Crimson putters available from Golfbuyitonline, the Odyssey Crimson 550 putter, the Odyssey Crimson 660 putter and the Odyssey Crimson 770 putter.
The Crimson 550 putter is a rounded, face balanced mallet with an extended slant-neck hosel and full-shaft offset.
The Crimson 660 putter is a rounded heel-toe weighted blade with a “crank neck” and a full set offset.
The Crimson 770 putter is a modified heel-toe weighted blade with alignment channels, a “crank neck” hosel and full-shaft offset.
Callaway Diablo is Go!
The new Callaway Big Bertha range is here! Golfbuyitonline are happy to announce the arrival of the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo equipment range. The range includes Big Bertha Diablo fairway woods, Big Bertha Diablo hybrids, Big Bertha Diablo golf bags, Big Bertha Diablo golf balls (as previously mentioned on this blog), Big Bertha Diablo umbrellas, Big Bertha Diablo towels and Big Bertha Diablo golf gloves with Big Bertha Diablo Drivers on their way soon.
The all-titanium headed driver is available in two models, neutral and the unusual looking draw model. In the draw model the head has been shaped with more mass in the heel of the club to encourage a right-to-left flight. The unique shape of the club moves the majority of weight low and deep in the head. The placement of weight is also designed to help close the clubface at impact and release the club with more power.
The Big Bertha Diablo golf ball is a 2-piece design with Hex aerodynamics to reduce drag and increase distance.
The new Big Bertha Diablo Hybrids provide the power and attitude that give golfers the confidence to pull off any shot from anywhere on the course. The head design features a high MOI for more stability and forgiveness, so golfers get more distance and increased accuracy whether they’re crushing it off the tee or firing at the flag.

Mizuno – Iron King
Golf Digest’s 2009 annual Hot List has crowned Mizuno as the king of irons with an avalanche of ‘Gold Awards’.
Mizuno received more ‘iron’ gold awards than any other manufacturer, and was the only manufacturer in the test to receive a gold medal in every category – players / game improvement / super game improvement.
Dominating the ‘Players’ category, both the Mizuno MP-62 irons and Mizuno MP-52 irons received gold awards. The MP-52 was a big favourite with Golf Digest suggesting they were ‘a fine option for the player who wants the forged feel, but doesn’t have enough game for the MP-62.’
The Game Improvement Gold was carried away by the Mixuno MX-200 irons. The triple cut sole was noted as a ‘cool feature for middle handicappers who like to work the ball.’
Paul Casey Wins Abu Dhabi Championship
Paul Casey shot a 2-under 70 Sunday to win the Abu Dhabi Championship by one stroke over Louis Oosthuizen and defending champion Martin Kaymer.
Casey, who last won a tournament at the 2007 Abu Dhabi event, had three bogeys on the back nine to finish at 21-under 267.
Casey, who had the lead heading into the final round, started with a pair of birdies Sunday and soon stretched his lead to six shots with birdies at Nos. 6, 8 and 10. But bogeys on the 11th, 13th and 14th, and birdies by Oosthuizen on the 15th and 18th, made it close.
New TaylorMade Burner Irons to be Unveiled this Week
During the past few months TaylorMade have rigorously tested their new Burner irons with numerous tour pros, knowing that the approval of these uncompromising players is essential to gaining widespread trial and acceptance of their innovations. The results have been overwhelming and the reactions have been unanimous: every one of them loves the new Burner irons. See for yourself in this candid video of Nick Faldo as he tried them for the first time.
Nick, winner of six major championships and known to have the most discerning eye for equipment in the game, called the new Burners an unquestioned quantum leap in iron performance. Kenny Perry tested them in December and pronounced them “a Ferrari. The best irons I’ve ever hit.”
Golf Digest heartily agrees. In the 2009 Hot List, out this month, the new Burners not only received the highest overall rating, Gold Medal, but were the winner in the most meaningful performance categories: 1) Overall Performance, 2) Innovation, and 3) Look/Sound/Feel.
