Like Allen, Yani Tseng was also celebrating thanks to her TaylorMade Rossa Itsy Bitsy Spider Putter after winning the LPGA Corning Classic in New York.

Westwood’s caddie in 90-mile hike to the Open

Lee Westwood will have to do without his new caddie when he tees off in the Scottish Open in July.

Instead of accompanying Westwood around Loch Lomond, Billy Foster will leave the course on Thursday 9 July, the day the tournament starts.

He will trek 90 miles – golf bag and all – and plans to arrive at Turnberry, the venue of the Open, the following Monday.

“I organised the walk while I was working for Sergio Garcia, but Lee is fine with it,” said Foster.

The Darren Clarke Foundation for breast cancer and Candlelighters Children’s Cancer Trust will be the beneficiaries.

Lee Westwood’s bag contains:

DRIVER: PING Rapture V2

FAIRWAY WOODS: PING G10 3 and 5

Utility: PING Rapture Hybrid 19 degree

IRONS: PING S57

WEDGES: PING Tour W Wedges

PUTTER: PING JAS Tess

Good luck with that walk Billy!

Mizuno MX700 Driver

Mizuno are well known for making great irons.  But while their grain-flow forged offerings have become industry standard-setters, the woods department has not seen the same kind of broad approval.

Happily, this is where the Mizuno MX700 Driver steps up.  Replacing the MX560, the latest offering features a plasma-welded face which helps increase ball speeds off all parts of the face.  This is thanks to what they are calling Ti9, based on the face that metal, like wood, has a grain which can be orientated either to boost stregnth or limit it.  The grain in the titanium face of the Mizuno MX700 Driver runs vertically from sole to crown, a design that expands the driver’s sweetspot.

Clubhead weighting is designed to help the golfer achieve penetrating drives.  The wide geometry of the head means a low CG and a big sweetspot – leading to impressive launches and low spinning tee shots.

Looks-wise, the guys here at Golfbuyitonline were split.  Steve thought it was a “Bobby Dazzler”, but Jon wasn’t keen on the graphics on the top of the club.  But where our team were in agreement was in the performance of the Mizuno MX700 Driver – it was stunning.  Long, booming drives were very much the order of the day, with dispersion figures also favourable.

This is the best Mizuno driver we’ve seen for a while!

Titleist player Zach Johnson claims victory in Texas

The Titleist Pro V1 rose to the top of the leaderboard across worldwide tours this weekend, led by Zach Johnson, who trusted the superior feel and performance of Titleist to claim the Valero Texas Open on the USPGA Tour.  Johnson followed his incredible third round 10-under par 60 with a level par 70 on Sunday to finish on 15-under par, 265, before a birdie at the first extra hole secured victory. Johnson’s victory was his second of the year following his Sony Open triumph, and his second consecutive win at the Valero Texas Open. Johnson was joined at the top of the leaderboard in San Antonio by Titleist Brand Ambassador Bill Haas and Pro V1 loyalist Paul Goydos, who finished tied for third on 266, 14-under par, respectively.

Johnson’s (Pro V1x, 909 D2 driver, 909 F2 fairway, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design Wedges) victory was the sixth of his career and propels him to the top of the FedEx Cup standings. In addition to leading Johnson to victory, Titleist was also the most played golf ball at the Valero Texas Open with 99 players, more than three times the nearest competitor with 30. Titleist also topped the counts for wedges with 146 players, and putters with 64 players.

TaylorMade Introduces R9 460 Driver

In February, TaylorMade introduced the R9 driver, which was the No. 1 driver model in it’s first event on both the European Tour and PGA Tour*. Now, TaylorMade is introducing the R9 460 driver, which combines TaylorMade’s renowned Flight Control Technology (FCT) with the forgiveness and power of a 460cc titanium clubhead and the speed-promoting properties of a longer length and extremely lightweight graphite shaft.

FCT gives the golfer the power to easily change the club’s face angle, loft and lie angle simply by loosening a bolt in the sole, rotating the shaft into the designated position, then tightening the bolt. FCT makes it so easy to adjust the angle of the clubface into a position that suits your eye and your swing, helping you hit the ball straighter and longer. It also promotes a side-to-side change in trajectory of up to 40 yards, helping golfers to promote a draw or fade, or diminish a hook or slice. The R9 460 includes a white FCT wrench that delivers the 40 inch-pounds of torque necessary to adequately tighten the FCT bolt.

Compared to the R9 driver, the R9 460 driver has a larger head, deeper clubface and lower and deeper-back centre of gravity (CG), qualities that deliver a higher MOI for greater forgiveness and a higher spin-rate, helping low-spin players keep the ball in the air longer for increased carry and distance.

Powerful 460cc Clubhead featuring TaylorMade’s New Classic Shape

The R9 460’s clubhead is constructed with the aid of TaylorMade’s Ultra-Thin Wall (UTW) technology, which allows for clubhead walls measuring as thin as 0.6 millimetres, with the saved weight redistributed to help make the low and-deep-back CG possible.

Longer Club-length; Aldila RE*AX 60-gram tip-soft shaft

The R9 460 driver is long in length – 45.75″ – and equipped with an Aldila RE*AX 60-gram tip-soft shaft. The characteristics of the shaft and the club’s added length together promote increased clubhead speed and distance.

Inverted Cone Technology

The R9 460 driver also incorporates TaylorMade’s renowned Inverted Cone clubface technology, which expands the area of the clubface that delivers high ball speed. Characterised by an inverted cone that’s milled directly onto the inner side of the clubface, Inverted Cone Technology increases the club’s forgiveness on mis-hits. Together, the combination of the R9 460’s Inverted Cone Technology, high MOI and exceedingly low CG makes it incredibly easy to hit.

R9 460 on Tour

Tour professionals who have put the R9 driver in play include Sean O’Hair, Kenny Perry, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Darren Clark and Andres Romero. The R9 460 is expected to attract similar interest among Tour pros.

R9 460 TP

For Tour pros and skilled players, the R9 460 TP is also being introduced. It features the same identical clubhead as the R9 460, but is equipped with a Fujikura Motore F1 65 graphite shaft with a .335″ tip. The R9 460 TP is also available with the following custom shaft offerings in X, S and R flexes: Fujikura Motore F1 75, Fujikura Motore F1 85, Fujikura Motore F1 55, Aldila Voodoo VS6, Aldila Voodoo NV6, Mitsubishi Fubuki 63, Mitsubishi Fubuki 73, Matrix Ozik X-CON 5 and Matrix HD 6.

The R9 460 driver is offered in 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degree lofts (9.5 and 10.5 left-handed), and in X, S, R and M shaft flexes.

A ladies version of the R9 460 will be available in 10.5 and 11.5 degree lofts shortly after the release of the men’s model.

The R9 460 TP driver is offered in 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 degree lofts (9.5 and 10.5 left-handed), and in X, S and R shaft flexes.

* = # 1 Driver model claim based on 2009 usage on the PGA and European Tour (Bob Hope Classic and Dubai Desert Classic) as reported by the Darrell Survey Co. and Sports Marketing Surveys Ltd.

British Masters Dropped from the Tour

The British Masters has been dropped from this year’s European Tour schedule after the tournament’s sponsorship deal expired and no replacement was found.

The event, which has been staged at The Belfry for the last three years, is one of the Tour’s oldest events, having been staged every year since 1946.

The tournament had been scheduled for 17-20 September but the Austrian Open will now take its place.  This comes after news earlier in the year that

The English Open at St Mellion was also cancelled earlier in the year.  That was due to a construction project in the area of the course and the event is expected to return to the European Tour in 2011.  This event has not been staged since 2002 when Darren Clarke won.

The British Masters was first held at Stoneham Golf Club in 1946 and enjoyed a nomadic life before spending 10 years at Woburn from 1985-94.

England’s Peter Baker won with a tournament record 22 under par 266 at Woburn in 1993.

St Pierre in Monmouthshire also hosted the tournament on many occasions in the 1970s and early 80s.

Legends of the game such as England’s Tony Jacklin, Scotland’s Bernard Gallacher, Ireland’s Christy O’Connor Sr and Spain’s Seve Ballesteros, each recorded two wins at the event.

So, here’s hoping that we will see the return of The British Masters in 2010.
