Titleist golf ball loyalist Lee Westwood races away from the pack to win Dubai World Championship

Lee Westwood trusted the iconic Titleist Pro V1x to claim the second European Tour Order of Merit title of his career after recording a sensational 6-shot victory at the season ending Dubai World Championship. Westwood’s 23-under par, 265 total, included a course record 8-under par 64 on Sunday, which saw him finish ahead of fellow Titleist golf ball player Ross McGowan (Pro V1x) and Titleist Ambassador Rory McIlroy (Pro V1x), who finished second and third respectively. Completing the all Pro V1 top-5 in Dubai were Padraig Harrington (Pro V1x) and Geoff Ogilvy (Pro V1) who finished tied fourth on 14-under par 274.

Westwood enjoyed a total of thirteen top-10 finishes throughout the 2009 Race to Dubai including third place finishes at both The Open and USPGA Championships and victory at the Portugal Masters. Westwood follows in the footsteps of Titleist Ambassador Robert Karlsson who also trusted the feel and control of the Pro V1 to be crowned European #1 in 2008 as Titleist golf balls continue to be the choice of champions. As well as being the ball of choice for each of the top 5 players on the final leaderboard, the Pro V1 was the preferred choice of the field at the Dubai World Championship with 33 players trusting Titleist, compared to 9 for the nearest competitor,

20-year old Rory McIlroy narrowly missed out on becoming the second youngest European #1 in Tour history, but his top three finish in Dubai secured second place in the 2009 Race to Dubai and capped a magnificent second full season as a professional for the Titleist Ambassador.  McIlroy trusted Titleist from tee to green throughout the season including the Pro V1x ball, 909D2 driver, 906F2 fairway metals, ZM forged irons, Vokey Design pitching wedge, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges and Scotty Cameron Studio Select Fastback putter.

Elsewhere, Pro V1 loyalist Marcus Both trusted the performance of the Pro V1x to capture the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open on the Asian Tour with a final round 5-under 67 and one shot margin of victory. On the Australasian Tour, Pro V1x loyalist Aaron Townsend finished on 21-under par to win the Cellarbrations NSW PGA Championship ahead of fellow Titleist golf ball loyalists Michael Wright and Scott Arnold as Titleist secured a 1-2-3 finish. These victories take the 2009 Titleist golf ball win count to 149 across the major worldwide professional Tours. This compares to 26 for the nearest competitor and is more than all other golf ball competitors combined.

Another European Tour victory and Order of Merit crown for a Pro V1 loyalist, an all Pro V1 top five at the European Tour’s premier event and the constant flow of victories for Titleist Pro V1 players worldwide acts as further proof that the game’s elite prefer the matchless performance of Titleist.
