Fisher and Titleist on Top of the World
Titleist brand ambassador captures the Volvo World Match Play Championship
Titleist Brand Ambassador Ross Fisher captured his biggest career victory to date with an immaculate display of consistent precision golf around the testing Finca Cortesin course in Spain. The win came on Fisher’s 126th hole of the week where a par 4 saw him capture the win that had so far eluded him during a season of great performances.. Following strong finishes at the US Open and The Open Championship, Fisher has elevated himself to fourth on the inaugural Race to Dubai rankings and 17th position in the Official World Golf Rankings following this week’s win. Fisher captured the Volvo World Match Play Championship, with a 4&3 margin of victory over Anthony Kim in the final match. The 28-year old Englishman had previously edged out Masters champion Angel Cabrera (Pro V1x) on the third extra hole of his semi final to setup a showdown with Kim for the Championship and was never behind in the scheduled 36-hole championship match from the moment he birdied the first hole of the day.
Fisher trusted the superior performance of Titleist for this victory; Pro V1x, 909D3 driver (8.5), 695MB irons (2-9), Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges (48, 54, 60), Scotty Cameron putter. Titleist was the ball of choice among the players at the limited field Volvo World Match Play Championship with eight players teeing up a Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x, versus three for the nearest competitor.
Also this week in a co-sanctioned European and Asian Tour event, Ian Poulter (Pro V1x) claimed his first title since 2007 at the Barclays Singapore Open. Titleist was the top golf ball choice among players at the Barclays Singapore Open with 97 players, compared to 22 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also topped the count for both iron sets and wedges at the event. Poulter’s win marks the 23rd for Titleist players on the 2009 PGA European Tour season, more than three times the nearest competitor with 7.
In addition to victories for Fisher and Poulter there were further wins for Titleist golf balls elsewhere in the world. On the LPGA Tour in South Korea, Titleist golf ball loyalists claimed first, second and third spots at the Hana Bank KOLON Championship with Na Yeon Choi (Pro V1x) taking the title. In South Africa, Darren Fichardt (Pro V1x) won on the South African Tour’s Platinum Classic, while on the Australasian tour Titleist golf balls claimed another 1-2-3 with Andrew Bonhomme (Pro V1x) capturing the Laurance Scrap Metal WA PGA Championship. There was also victory for Titleist in Korea, where Ki Sang-Lee (Pro V1), pulled away from fellow Titleist Brand Ambassador Jae-Hoon Jung (Pro V1x) to capture the 18-hole final of the DongBu Promi Match Play Championship whilst in Japan, veteran Toru Suzuki (Pro V1x) ended a five-year title drought with a commanding victory at the Mynavi ABC Championship.
Victories for Fisher, Poulter and a host of other names across the worldwide professional Tours takes the win count for the Titleist Pro V1 to 144 for the 2009 season, compared to just 25 for the nearest competitor. Titleist is also by far the most played ball across the worldwide professional Tours with 65% of players choosing to tee up either Pro V1 or Pro V1x in competition across the 2009 season compared to 10% of the count for the nearest competitor.
Triumph for Titleist Brand Ambassador Ross Fisher, who climbs to 17th in the world rankings, as well as the constant flow of victories around the world for Pro V1 loyalists proves once again that the game’s elite continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist.
R9 Irons – Serious performance technology in a classic player’s shape and size
There’s already a lot of excitement around TaylorMade’s new R9 irons, which have been designed to deliver modern performance and tremendous distance in a more classic package. Here we take a look at the latest TaylorMde irons.
“Whereas Burner irons deliver extraordinary distance in a modern design, the R9 irons are aimed at the technician, and so are rendered in a player’s shape with a clean and conventional look,” said Harry Arnett, TaylorMade’s senior category director of metalwoods, irons and balls. “However, a ridiculous degree of performance-enhancing technology is packaged within each oversized clubhead. The result is an iron that’s phenomenally easy to play despite its classic appearance, and extremely controllable and accurate as well.”
The new R9 long-irons and middle-irons were designed separately from the short-irons to optimise performance in each club. The result is that the 3-iron through 6-iron are extremely long and easy to hit, and the short-irons are engineered to promote great feel, control and accuracy.
Each R9 long-iron and middle-iron (3- through 6-) houses a large and fully enclosed compartment positioned behind the clubface, underneath the cavity badge, called the Velocity-Control Chamber (VCC) that makes it easier to launch the ball.
R9 short-irons are engineered to deliver increased playability, control and feel in the scoring zone, as each compact clubhead incorporates a deep undercut cavity and broad, low-CG sole that makes it easy to make solid, spin-inducing contact to get the ball in the air and stop it quickly upon landing.
The sole of every R9 iron is specially bevelled to reduce turf resistance, helping the bottom of the club glide through impact and apply maximum force to the ball.
The R9 TP irons incorporate a new groove design that conforms to the USGA and R&A ruling that comes into effect in 2010 for high-level competition.
R9 irons come equipped with KBS 90-gram steel shafts, available in S and R flexes. The R9 iron is also available in one graphite shaft model, the Fujikura Motore, in 75-grams in S flex, 65-grams in R flex and 55-grams in M flex.
The R9 Irons: Technology-Fueled Distance and Control in a Classic Shape
Each R9 iron combines high COR and high MOI, making them longer and more forgiving than their classic-looking clubhead shape implies. Thus they’re ideal for the technician who wants a powerful, easy-to-hit iron that suits his preference for a more classic-looking shape. Adding to their beauty is their nickel chrome-plated stainless steel and pearl finish, which helps make them stand out on the shelf. There’s no doubt that these irons are worthy of the name R9 and that they’ll serve as a terrific complement to the Burner irons in the marketplace.
Faldo supports the design of R9 TP Irons
The R9 TP irons have been designed with significant input from six-time Major winner Nick Faldo – a connoisseur of classic iron design. When Nick joined our Tour Staff he made it clear he wanted to be involved in our efforts to merge technology and tradition in our TP equipment. He spoke of the importance of how the clubface blends with the hosel and that “it’s love at first sight” for the player if you get that correct; he worked closely with the designers on that, as well as the overall shape and size.
Given the combination of size, shape, blade-like features and performance technology, TaylorMade are expecting tour pros to take to the R9 TP irons very quickly so hurry and get these great irons while stocks last.
