Footjoy – The Number One Shoe and Glove in Golf
Footjoy are celebrating another year as the Number One shoe in golf after having 25 shoe wins throughout 2008, a victory totalling more than all competitive shoes combined.
The champagne flowed for global superstars like Adam Scott and Vijay Singh, for the Tour’s new generation, Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher and Graeme McDowell. Not to mention the Volvo Masters winner Soren Kjeldsen and the newly crowned European Number One, Robert Karlsson, all victorious in 2008 wearing the FJ initials.
Each of their winners were able to toast their favourite Footjoy style. Robert Karlsson’s late season charge to the Order of Merit title was made in his distinctive white and rhubarb Footjoy Classics. The new Dryjoys shoes had a high profile, players like Vijay and Jeev Milkha Singh, striding to success in the ‘Tech’ style and Adam Scott favouring the more traditional look when he won in Qatar.
What a year 2008 has been…
2008 has been a fantastic year for golf, we hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have. Padraig defended his British Open title, Tiger being forced to miss much of the season (after winning the US Open though), Inbee Park was not only the winner of the US Women’s Open, but was the youngest ever player to win the competition.
Padraig Harrington’s chances of defending the Open were hanging on the damaged fibres of a strained tendon. The damage had been done the previous Sunday when Harrington had been performing strengthening exercises by swinging one-handed into an impact bag stuffed full of towels. Missing out on valuable practice time, Harrington’s hopes of holding his title seemed all but gone, but he managed to battle on through his strained tendon to add his name to the trophy for a second year in a row.
He might not have been on a golf course for much of 2008, but Tiger Woods’ name was rarely out of the news, part thanks to his win at the US Open in June but mostly down to his knee injury and operation forcing him out of the game for the rest of the year. Tiger Woods beat the best in the world with two fractures to his tibia and a knee full of frayed elastic bands. You could sometimes hear the snap, crackle and pop when he was swinging. Woods double bogeyed the first hole almost every day and still came back.
Inbee Park became the fifth South Korean to win an LPGA Tour major, the second only to the list of American major champions. And she replaced Pak as the youngest winner of the U.S. Women’s Open, still two weeks away from her 20th birthday.
With moments like these, let’s hope 2009 will be just as eventful! Will Harrington hold onto the Open title for another year? Will Tiger’s knee hold up? Will Inbee Park collect any more trophies? We can only wait and see.
