Stability is top priority for Footjoy
FootJoy continue to rise to the top against competition
FootJoy, the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf, recently completed an extensive test of several leading footwear products used on the PGA Tour. Results indicated that FootJoy offer the best stability in their shoes, a fact that is supported by the 60%+ of PGA Tour players putting their trust in FootJoy footwear.
FootJoy’s advanced development team works with its worldwide network of Tour players, leading biomechanical experts, and staff at the Titleist Performance Institute. The goal is to continuously develop and re-establish new standards for performance footwear. “A key indicator of platform stability is force platform testing, which effectively measures the amount of ground force created by the right foot (for the right-handed golfer) in the direction of the ball flight during the golf swing,” said Doug Robinson, Vice President of Design & Development Worldwide, FootJoy. “Higher results indicate that more power is transferred by the back foot from the top of the backswing through impact and follow-through.”
Utilising an outside biomechanical expert and low handicap test subjects, FootJoy tested several leading footwear products using the force platform. The test results indicated that the SYNR-G™, DryJoys® and recently launched FJ SPORT™ golf shoe models outperform other shoes on the market by a significant margin.
“We’re very pleased with the results of the force platform test” said Robinson. “It’s gratifying to validate our relentless efforts to satisfy the best players in the world. They look to FootJoy to constantly lead, innovate and make the best performing product. Using Padraig Harrington’s own words, our shoes clearly ‘do the job’ better.”
Introduced in January 2009, SYNR-G golf shoes became an instant success on Tour. Steve Stricker, Zach Johnson, Michael Hoey and Jerry Kelly all won wearing SYNR-G shoes. In addition, dozens of others, including Padraig Harrington, enjoy its performance and comfort week in, week out. SYNR-G is constructed with an ultra-supportive tri-density TPU outsole and an exclusive tri-lateral stability frame. Comfort is enhanced with memory foam around the collar and under the tongue, which also optimises fit and stabilises the foot inside the shoe.
Whether it is the all-round excellence of the all new FJ ICON, the unrivalled stability of the SYNR-G, or the reliable and consistent performance of DryJoys, FootJoy remains the overwhelming favourite for golfers of all abilities around the world.

Market leading golf shoe brand, FootJoy, reflects on another successful year on Tour as popularity increases amongst the game’s elite
As the season comes to a close FootJoy, the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf, is able to reflect on yet another impressive year on tour as 63.4% of all European Tour players chose FootJoy compared to just 20.0% for the nearest competitor. FootJoy was also prominent at the business end of most events with 59.6% of top 10 finishers wearing FootJoy. The 2009 figures are the highest in recent years as the popularity of the market leading brand continues to strengthen amongst the game’s elite.
It was a successful year for a number of FootJoy ambassadors with England’s Lee Westwood leading the way securing the biggest European Tour win of his career at the season finale Dubai World Championships which also saw him win the inaugural Race to Dubai. Angel Cabrera took the second Major title of his career at the 79th Masters at Augusta National while other established stars Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher also finished the season off with big wins. FootJoy’s young guns, including newly crowned European Rookie of the Year 22 year old Chris Wood, Rory McIlroy, Estanislao Goya and Danny Willett continue to impress on their rise up the world rankings.
“This has been a hugely successful season for FootJoy on Tour. Following the launch of the exciting SYNR-G™ category in January we launched the new FJ ICON™ in September which has proven very popular with the players. Our strengthening position is due to a combination of the breadth of the range, including the different sizes, widths, lasts and designs that are available, but also the formidable performance characteristics that are present in our shoes, offering stability, support and comfort. Whether it is established FootJoy loyalists like Westwood and Poulter or the new crop of talented youngsters like McIlroy or Wood, we have a FootJoy shoe to a suit a wide range of tastes and performance needs,” commented Richard Fryer, European Marketing Manager, FootJoy.
With the FJ ICON™ in its first full season, updated styles in both DryJoys® and SYNR•G™ plus the newly launched FJ SPORT™ added to the line-up, FootJoy’s popularity with Tour players and golf consumers alike looks set to strengthen yet further in 2010.
Advantages of using a Golf Glove
Most golfers will know the benefit of wearing a golf glove but believe it or not, some don’t. Wearing a golf glove is not a requirement, but it is recommended. There are some pro players – Fred Couples, for example – who do not wear gloves. They are very rare, however, and golf pros will always recommend the use of a glove.
Wearing a glove will help you have a better grip on the club. If you don’t wear a glove then when you swing the momentum will cause the club to swing very slightly out of your hand and wearing a glove prevents this from happening. And if you don’t you could lose control of the club and take someone out and that wouldn’t be good.
However a golf glove provides much more grip on the club so it is less prone to twisting during the swing. It also allows you to hold the club less tightly leading to a more relaxed, more accurate swing.
The biggest advantage of a glove is to prevent blisters on your hands. Blisters occur the harder you grip the more friction you will create between the grip and the hand and cause the blistering & cracking. The glove should allow you to take a grip with less tension while still maintaining a good amount of grip friction between the leather and the grip.
