NEW TaylorMade Monza Spider Vicino Putter
What TaylorMade Say
TaylorMade has come a long way toward being recognized as a leading putter company during the past few years, thanks to the wonderful work of Kia Ma and the extraordinary success of our Monza Spider line of putters. Now, with great excitement, we’re unveiling the Monza Spider Vicino, which means “near” or “next” in Italian, because this is the next generation in this phenomenal family of putters.
It’s common knowledge that we focused on function, not form, when developing our Monza Spider putters Our goal was to create the most forgiving, best-rolling putter that we possibly could regardless of what it looked like. The result was a revolutionary club that quickly became tour-proven, quickly was used to win on tour and quickly became a big seller all over the world. However, many tour pros reported that although they loved performance of our Monza Spiders, the shape didn’t suit their eye. Give us a cleaner, more streamlined head, they said, but don’t sacrifice any of the performance.
That was a major challenge. So much of Monza Spiders’ performance is dependent on its bulky, ugly-duckling shape. Nonetheless, Bill Price and Bret Wahl and the rest of the putter team went to work to massage the famous shape into something sleeker and more pleasing, while keeping the high MOI and forgiveness that made the original Monza Spiders such a breakthrough. That took a lot of thought, time, effort and engineering, but creating innovative products and then improving on them is what we do.
The most frequent request we heard from the tour had to do with the “aft wings,” which contain the weight ports, of the original Monza Spider. Players asked if we could tuck them in close to the body to create a more graceful, streamlined appearance. However, the vaunted stability on off-center hits of the Monza Spider and Itsy Bitsy Monza Spider is rooted in its weight distribution, and a key component of that is how the wings are positioned wide apart from each other. Tucking the ports in meant bringing them closer together, which would reduce MOI and resistance to twisting.
Eventually we determined that yes, we could shift the ports inward without losing significant MOI by employing a lighter material for the central core of the putter head and a heavier material for the wings themselves. We switched to a lightweight polymer core weighing just 24 grams, which weighs 107 grams less than Monza Spider 08’s core – a huge difference. That allowed us to put dramatically more weight into Monza Spider Vicino’s perimeter by using a 316-gram steel frame, compared to Spider 08’s 202-gram frame.
Those changes allowed us to move the weight ports closer together while also creating high MOI and greater stability on off-center hits at the same time. That’s right, Spider Vicino allows you to have your cake and eat it too because its new, more pleasing shape doesn’t force you to sacrifice noticeable forgiveness.
Vicino’s new shape is accompanied by a less visually busy crown design, also at the behest of the tour. The busy-looking black and white “basketball court” alignment aid on the Monza Spider 08 has been replaced by a thin, silver-colored layer of steel that contrasts beautifully with the black PVD frame. The steel crown layer features a single black line to aid in alignment, because when tour pros asked for custom versions of Monza Spider and Itsy Bitsy Monza Spider, one of the most common requests was for a single alignment line. Also, Monza Spider Vicino’s crown is flush with the topline, (in previous Monza Spiders the crown lies lower than the topline, so the two meet unevenly). This flush juncture between the crown and topline makes for a cleaner and more cohesive appearance.
Vicino also incorporates a new composite AGSI+ insert. Past Rossa inserts consisted of Titallium, a lightweight alloy composed of seven metals, Monza Spider Vicino’s insert is made of carbon fiber and resin, like a graphite shaft. The advantage of the composite insert is that it flexes and “holds” the ball in its grooves more effectively at impact, promoting more forwardspin. The composite insert is also lighter than its predecessor, allowing for the redistribution of 3 grams to the perimeter. TaylorMade testing indicates that the composite AGSI+ insert promotes up to 30 RPM more forwardspin compared to the Titallium AGSI+ insert.
Like previous Monza Spiders, Vicino features TaylorMade’s Movable Weight Technology (MWT), with two weights. Vicino comes equipped with two 4-gram weights, and heavier or lighter weights can be purchased separately to customize the feel by increasing or decreasing the head weight. Also, the same MWT weights used in TaylorMade metalwoods can be used in any Monza Spider putter, including Vicino, and any MWT wrench can be used to remove or install weights.
Size-wise, Monza Spider Vicino falls between the Monza Spider and Monza Itsy Bitsy Spider. Vicino’s face-width is equal to Monza Spider’s, while the width between Vicino’s weight ports is equal to Monza Itsy Bitsy Spider’s. The result is mallet with a mid-size look that combines plenty of confidence-inspiring face area with a compact and non-distracting back end.
With Monza Spider Vicino, we’ve taken the Monza Spider 08 and Itsy Bitsy Monza Spider – two modern classics – and improved on them by making them look better and perform better while maintaining the essence of what made those putters great in the first place – outstanding stability on off-center hits and incredibly smooth roll. Many players who found the shape of Spider 08 disagreeable will be pleased with the refinements we’ve made to the shape of Vicino, and will be equally pleased to know that the performance has been enhanced, as well. We expect a great response from the tour, since we made these improvements at the request of tour pros. We also expect a great response from golfers of all types who want a mallet that’s easy on the eyes, easy to aim, ultra-forgiving and which promotes a true, bounce-less, easy to control roll.
The NEW TaylorMade Monza Spider Vicino Putter is available at Golfbuyitonline from April 1st 2010

TITLEIST UNVEILS NEW FOUR-MODEL FAMILY OF SCOTTY CAMERON CALIFORNIA PUTTERS
Validated on the most competitive proving grounds – the worldwide professional golf tours – Titleist advances the Scotty Cameron tradition of crafting modern classics with the introduction of the Scotty Cameron California putter line. In addition, Cameron adds three new models to its popular Studio Select line.
Scotty Cameron California putters were born from timeless, tour-proven designs and the modern weighting technology that has made Scotty Cameron Studio Select putters so successful. The Select technology Cameron introduced with the original Studio Select putter line that allows the balancing of putter head weight with shaft length, has been incorporated into the new California line of putters as well, providing a wider range of choices for length and weight to enhance performance for a wide range of putting strokes.
“I am extremely excited about the early acceptance and feedback that I have received about the California family of putters,” said Master Putter Craftsman, Scotty Cameron. “This new line brings modern playability and customization to some of my favorite designs from my early Classics and Handmade models. Players who prefer the more flowing, less geometric lines of the Coronado or the Del Mar are now going to find that they don’t have to sacrifice performance. With the wide range of weight and length options that we now have available, players can get a perfect fit for their stroke as well as their eye.”
Cameron California putters are precision milled from soft 303 stainless steel. The new line features four models representative of towns in California – Coronado, Monterey, Sonoma and Del Mar – characterized by blade as well as mallet-style heads and two different neck styles. Available in multiple length, lie and headweight options, players can choose a Cameron California putter with the appearance they prefer, the length and weight they need, and a neck configuration that provides the proper amount of toe flow during the stroke. The California line is distinguished by a unique “Honey Dipped” rich bronze finish that looks great in natural light, while reducing glare.
In addition, in response to feedback from tour players, Titleist has updated the 2009 Studio Select line with the addition of the Newport 2.5, Squareback 2 and Fastback 1.5 models. The three will replace the current Newport 1.5, Newport 2.7 and Fastback 1 in the Studio Select stable.

Stewart Cink’s first major triumph in the 138th Open at Turnberry
Stewart Cink, 36-year-old, is the new Open champion, snatching the title from the hands of Tom Watson in a four-hole playoff after they tied on a two-under-par total of 278. Cink an American golfer took up the game when his parents, both single handicap players, left him at the driving range before he was old enough to go on the course. He now becomes the ninth different American to win the Open since 1995.
Cink ended up beating Watson by six shots in a play-off after the two had both finished the tournament two under. However it could have easily been a different story had 59-year-old Watson not missed an eight foot putt for par on the final hole of Sunday’s final round that would have given him a momentous sixth Open victory. Watson was said to be disappointed that he allowed the chance to become golf’s oldest-ever major champion by 11 years to slip through his grasp on a course where he claimed the fourth of his five Open championships 32 years ago.
The clubs that helped Cink win the Open can be seen in the above clip “In the Bag: Stewart Cink”. They of the clubs he identifies in this clip include:
• Driver – Nike SQ 9.5 Degrees
• Irons – Nike CCI Irons – 2, 3 & 4 Irons
• Nike Wedges
• Yes! Lizzy Plus Putter
Still Having Nightmares About Putting?
Are you getting to the green in few shots but then ending up taking at least three putts?
Are you worrying about missing the hole every time you step up to take a putt?
This post will reveal some great ideas to use next time you’re about to take putt and help sink more than you miss.
Study the Green
When you first get the green you need to study where you ball is laying and how far it is away for the hole. There are three main factors which you need to be aware of that will affect your shot, these are speed, run and slope. Studying these factors will help you visualise the line you want to hit the ball down. First start by crouching behind the ball and understand the layout of the green, determine the correct path you want to take to the hole. Make sure you take some time walking from your ball to the hole and back to indicate the correct direction you need to play the shot. This will also identify what (if any) obstacles lie between the hole and ball.
Address and Posture
As with your other golf shots make sure you head is completely still even after you have connected with the ball. When you move your head, you automatically open your shoulders which cause your putter to hit the ball down the wrong line. To ensure your head is completely still keep your eyes focused on the ball, this will ensure your eyes see exactly the line you want to hit your ball. Keep your eyes on the ball and head straight until you hear your golf ball land in the cup!
Visual Aids
Visual aids are a must when you are putting, these are constantly being used by the professionals and even though you may be a novice you need to start visualising. I great visual aid is to mark all your golf balls with the pen, then when cleaning your ball before you putt make sure you line up the pen mark with the target line to the hole. This will help you aim the putter a lot better and give you something to concentrate on to stop you thinking that you might miss the putt.
Aim past the hole
When putting you should never leave the ball short of the hole, this is one of the main sins of golf. Instead of focusing directly at the hole try to focus just after the hole this should encourage you to accelerate the putter through the hole causing you more likely to sink the putt that leave it short.
Practice Putting
One of the main reasons why you and loads of other golfers fail to master their putting is due to lack of putting practice. You will go up to the driving once or twice a week and also a pre match practice, but how often do you go to the putting green to practice. Practicing as much as you do your driving will dramatically change your game, remember a high percentage of shots will be your putts. Practice will give you so much more confidence and understanding of your putter, which will be a major benefit to you on the course.
Taking the fewest number of putts on the green is simple to achieve if you follow these proven principles in this article. Perfect putting is not a dream that you can only see on the television, use these principles and very soon you’ll be a master putter and your handicap will be on the way down.

Odyssey Putters
Homer’s epic Greek poem “The Odyssey” tells the story of hero Odysseus on his journey home to Ithaca after the fall of Troy.
Odyssey putters send a golf ball on a journey to the hole and, whilst not, an epic event, the excitement and anticipation, the difference between success and failure, the triumphs and tribulations are no less real.
In Homer’s poem, the outcome of the journey was decided on by the actions of ordinary men and women and the choices they made. Similarly, the putter a golfer chooses to use can influence the golf balls travels and how short or long that journey will be.
Odyssey concentrates their energies on the game within the game, which is putting. All of Odyssey’s resources, innovations and technology are ploughed into bringing golfers the best choice of putters.
Odyssey arranges their golf putters into series, which are then broken down into individual putters within that series:
Odyssey White Hot XG Series: Featuring XG insert technology for added feel, distance control, feedback, forgiveness and produces a truer roll. The series features the hugely popular 2-ball putter, which assist ball alignment, as well as, the dual fanged Sabertooth and fanged No.7 putters.
The Black Series features a rear tungsten flange to improve clubhead stability, as well as, the entire range being precision milled for greater feel and accuracy.
The Black Series-i putters are constructed in the same way as the Black Series, but, with the addition of a multi-layered Tour insert for added responsiveness and feel which appeals to top golfers.
The Crimson Series features three great putters, the 660, 550 and 770, which includes the crimson stronomic insert that increases feedback, and are priced for all golfers to afford.
The Divine Series is the series specifically created for lady golfers and was inspired by the great men’s putter designs, but, styled for how ladies play the game.
The Marxman Series are available in mallet or blade styles, and include a dual purpose putter/chipper, which are aligned and weighted for perfect putting accuracy.
Both, The White Hot Tour and Tour Authenticate series’ have been designed with the top professionals in mind. If you fancy using the putters that the pro’s use, and you have a suitably low handicap, these series’ are the crème de la crème of Odyssey golf putters and offer a customized feel and responsiveness that the top pro’s expect and demand.
So, if you do not want your golf putting journey to be as long as Homer’s epic Odyssey, than a smart move would be to look seriously at Odyssey’s line of putters.
Golfbuyitonline, not only, stock and supply a massive range of Odyssey golf putters, but, offer a, peace of mind, two year guarantee on the whole collection.
