Meet the New Callaway Diablo Edge Family
Callaway edge technology has the unique shaping of the all titanium club heads allowed engineers to move weight in specific locations to achieve the optimal CG location and ball flights for the Draw or Neutral options with a higher MOI. It also helps close the clubface at impact so golfers can better release the club with power.
The new Callaway edge family consists of drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, and iron sets.
Designed to give golfers a distance advantage every time you tee it up. The Diablo Edge and Diablo Edge Tour Drivers offer superior face technology, a higher MOI, a deeper CG, and better aerodynamics — and it all adds up to the longest, most accurate all-titanium drivers Callaway Golf has ever made.
Diablo Edge Drivers feature two unique shapes (standard and tour), but all the same technology. Both drivers offer a 4-Piece Fused Titanium Design, a Chemically Milled Hyperbolic Face Cup and an Aerodynamic Body Shape for the longest all-titanium driver we have ever developed. The standard models feature a core Callaway technology (S2H2), which removes weight from the hosel and repositions it in the perimeter of the golf club for more stability. The Tour models have a full-length hosel, less face progression and an optimized centre of gravity that provides the look, feel and performance highly skilled golfers demand.
Callaway Diablo Edge Fairway Wood
The new Diablo Edge Fairway Woods are the longest, straightest steel fairway woods Callaway have ever made, with distance gains of 10-12 yards over Big Bertha Diablo. That’s not just better, that’s a game changer. The Diablo Edge Tour Fairways possess the lowest, shallowest CG of any steel fairway wood Callaway have ever made, providing skilled players with a club that will perform more to their liking.
The standard Diablo Edge Fairway Woods feature the deepest centre of gravity (CG) of any fairway wood Callaway has ever made for high, distance-enhancing trajectory. The Diablo Edge Tour Fairway Woods have the lowest, shallowest CG of any steel Callaway fairway woods ever made for a flat, penetrating ball flight that is preferred by better players.
A forgiving, distance-enhancing alternative to long irons. The new Diablo Edge Hybrids have been specifically designed to provide golfers with a more forgiving, distance enhancing alternative to long irons. And with both standard and Tour models, the hybrids are available in a design that will suit all player types.
The Diablo just got better. This new Diablo Edge Hybrids does give you the edge. We’ve tested these hybrids and our pros commented on how easy they are to use compared to long irons. Fantastic technology!
There are several Set compositions to choose from in the option section.
The longest stainless steel irons Callaway have ever created. The Diablo Edge irons provide increased distance without compromising feel or performance. The lower, deeper centre of gravity (CG) makes the sweet spot more accessible and is in line with where amateurs most commonly hit the ball on the clubface, generating longer, consistent distance and improved accuracy.

The New Groove Rule Comes into Force in January
The view from Mizuno – Andy Kikidas:
It’s all designed to encourage accuracy off the tee. But will players rethink about their course-management with the new groove rule?
Firstly, grooves on wedges will need to have a smaller cross-sectional area and the shoulders of each groove will be blunted to reduce the grip on the ball. This sounds really drastic and has led to a couple of golf pundits making a really big issue about it, claiming it will totally change the game. In reality, we won’t see exactly what difference it will make until all the players start using them. From what I’ve seen on tour so far, I don’t think it will be as bad as some people think. Obviously some players will have to change a lot more clubs in their bags than others. Some players may need to learn a couple of different shots to accommodate the changes.
Almost all of our iron models already have grooves that will comply with the new rule so most of our players will only have to change their Mizuno wedges. As the new grooves don’t grip the ball as much the ball tends to roll up the face a little and this gives a higher launch. However, obviously with less spin. The reduction of spin should see the ball run out a little more but the higher launch may help stop the ball a bit quicker.
How to get the most out of your Wedge
Golf wedges are speciality clubs that have been designed to gain great loft, but, not vast distances.
The greatest concentration of shots that a golfer plays will be within a short distance of the hole (with 100-120 yards of the pin being where 70% of all ball play is located) and wedges were born out of the necessity for a club that could increase accuracy at shorter distances and cope with the many pitfalls dotted around the green, such as a bunker or hill.
Wedges land softly, with minimal roll, so mastering this club is a must for golfers wishing to improve their round totals and lower their handicap, because the ball stops at or very close to the spot the golfer intended.
In order to master the art of wedge shots there are some simple rules which should be followed:
- The lower body should remain steady and by opening up the hips, a golfer adopts an open posture, which allows freedom of movement of the shoulders and arms.
- Avoid attempting to lift or scoop the ball, but, instead hit down and through the ball by turning the wrists.
- Place your feet together to allow your upper body and arms to work as though one part.
- The tempo of your game does not waiver, so in order to pull off a great wedge shot, a golfer should adjust their backswing. Shorter distances require less backswing and greater distances, obviously, more.
- Shoulders should line up to the ball, chest should be turned away from the target and arms should remain free.
- Allow the wedge to flow by maintaining a soft grip on the club. Do not attempt to force the shot but allow the wedge to do its job.
- The right foot should remain firmly on the ground or left foot with left-handed players.
- By keeping hands low a golfer will hit down and through the ball, making for a better end result.
By getting to grips with what you can make a golf wedge do for their game can, vastly improve a golfer’s quality of play and make achieving par or below on holes a distinct possibility.
The Wedge Development for 2010
It’s been highlight by various sources that from January 2010 all wedges will be manufactured according to a new set of rules, where the groove volume will be halved and groove edges won’t be as sharp. As a result the space in the groove to the channel away debris will be significantly smaller, making it harder to get out of the rough.
The new rule states that amateurs will be allowed to play with pre – 2010 wedges until 2024, then all golfers have to abide by the new set of rules for the design of the wedge. However professional golfers will have to replace their wedges from 2010.
The new rule has been introduced as it will make for professionals next year as its thought that it will make the game harder for professional golfers. In theory then this rule will make the game more enjoyable to watch.
So when should you upgrade your wedge?
If your wedge is due for an upgrade there is nothing stopping you from going out and buying one today. On the market today there are several different groove technologies, so if amateurs don’t have to have the new wedge until 2024 you will get 14 years out of it however it may be worth taking into account looking over the new wedge for 2010 so you can adjust your play around it.
What needs to be remembered that it’s a gradual process of changing the wedge, so you have time to think about making the right choice for yourself.
Tips on how to lower you handicap
Meeting other golfers you are often asked the question most beginner golfers hate to hear “what’s your handicap”? This is the average figure you score over the par of the course you are playing for three rounds.
Many golfers go years without seeing massive improvements in their handicap. Essentially you need to think of your handicap score as something that reflects your skills and abilities in general to improve this try the following:
Practice your wedge shots
Wedge shots can be those vital shots for your game, whether they are for the final approach to the green or the bunker recoveries. Many golfer’s aim is to just get the ball on the green but what you need to remember when implementing your wedge shots is the place its going to land on the green, you need to see where it’s going to land on the green which can give you the easiest puts to finish the hole.
Sand shots are a nightmare for many novice golfers, however using the wedge’s face to your advantage is key to a successful recovery. By standing square to the ball and leaning slightly on your front foot, getting the leading edge of your wedge under the ball should lift the ball high and clear of the steep back wall of the bunker.
Analyse your own swing
It’s important for golfers to know where and why shots are going wrong. By taking practice swings or practicing at a driving range can really help you get a better understanding of what your natural shot is like. From this you can then adapt it so it improves your handicap.
Reduce your putts
Putting is another area where you need to practice to get a feel for the right weight to put into your shots. A good way to practice this is to try shots from different distances on different gradients, this will indicate to you the power that needs to be put in to the ball in either one or two shots.
Have a good grip
Good golf grip is important for any serious golfer. And the best way to develop your grip is by practicing it every time you can that could be on or off the golf course. Eventually with enough practice, holding a club properly will become second nature to you. So keep those clubs within a close range to get a better golf grip. Also having a comfortable grip on your club helps.
As with most things, remember practice makes perfect.
Stewart Cink’s first major triumph in the 138th Open at Turnberry
Stewart Cink, 36-year-old, is the new Open champion, snatching the title from the hands of Tom Watson in a four-hole playoff after they tied on a two-under-par total of 278. Cink an American golfer took up the game when his parents, both single handicap players, left him at the driving range before he was old enough to go on the course. He now becomes the ninth different American to win the Open since 1995.
Cink ended up beating Watson by six shots in a play-off after the two had both finished the tournament two under. However it could have easily been a different story had 59-year-old Watson not missed an eight foot putt for par on the final hole of Sunday’s final round that would have given him a momentous sixth Open victory. Watson was said to be disappointed that he allowed the chance to become golf’s oldest-ever major champion by 11 years to slip through his grasp on a course where he claimed the fourth of his five Open championships 32 years ago.
The clubs that helped Cink win the Open can be seen in the above clip “In the Bag: Stewart Cink”. They of the clubs he identifies in this clip include:
• Driver – Nike SQ 9.5 Degrees
• Irons – Nike CCI Irons – 2, 3 & 4 Irons
• Nike Wedges
• Yes! Lizzy Plus Putter
The Differences Between Types of Golf Wedge
Don’t know your lob wedge from your pitching wedge? Then read on.
There are four different types of golf wedges available and these are pitching wedges, gap wedges, sand wedges and lob wedges. You may come across other types of wedges, but these are generally just other names for the wedges listed above. What separates each of these wedges is the degree of loft in the clubface.
A pitching wedge is usually included with a set of irons and is the one golf wedge that every golfer will have. The loft of a pitching wedge is normally between 46 and 50 degrees, depending on the manufacturer. Of the different types of wedge, this is the one that will provide the longest distance.
Gap wedges have a loft between 50 and 54 degrees and fill the “gap” between your pitching wedge and sand wedge. Gap wedges do not come supplied with sets of irons and are sold as individual units. Gap wedges are also referred to as dual wedges, approach wedges or attack wedges.
Sand wedges are sometimes included with sets of irons and have a loft between 55 and 59 degrees. Don’t let the name make you think that these are only for escaping from bunkers. Sand wedges can be, and often are, hit from 90 yards into the pin as well as sand bunkers and provide a great amount of spin and stopping power.
Last, but by no means least is the lob wedge. Lob wedges, like gap wedges, are sold as individual clubs and are not included with sets of irons. Lob wedges have a loft of 60 to 64 degrees and are used for shorter high shots around the green that you would like to stop quickly.
Now that you know which wedges are which, use this information to pick out the perfect wedge to help your game at Golfbuyitonline. A handy tip is to space the lofts between your wedges by a minimum of 4 degrees. For example, if your pitching wedge has a loft of 48 degrees, then the loft of your gap wedge should be 52 degrees, your sand wedge should be 56 degrees and your lob wedge should be 60 degrees.
A Guide to Buying Golf Wedges
Every golfer will aim to make the sort of shots that they see on the TV where the ball is hit and stops just next to the hole and wonder how it’s done. The answer is that they have specific wedges that are designed for such shots. The majority of professional golfers now carry on average four wedges in their bag and the reason for this is so they have got most eventualities covered. You don’t want to carry one wedge and then end up in a situation where that wedge isn’t suitable for the shot you need to make.
Here at Golfbuyitonline we have an array of wedges from top manufacturers that can fill in the gaps in your game. We have wedges that will suit every playing style and every budget, so no matter which sort of wedge you are looking for, you’ll find it here.
Wedges are available in pitching, gap and lob wedge models in a variety of lofts. The Pitching Wedge is probably the one wedge that every player has and is usually used from about 100 to 125 yards from the pin. The loft in Pitching Wedges ranges between 46 and 50 degrees depending on the manufacturer. The Gap Wedge is used to fill the gap between the pitching and sand wedges and can carry lofts between 50 and 54 degrees. The Sand Wedge is not just for use in the sand traps. Sand Wedges provide a great amount of spin and stopping power. Usually used from 90 yards into the pin, as well as sand traps, its loft is usually between 55 and 59 degrees. The Lob Wedge is used for shorter high shots around the green that you would like to stop quickly. They generally have a loft of 60 to 64 degrees and are a lot of fun to hit.
As a general rule of thumb the average player should try to space the loft of the different wedges to 4 degrees, so there should be 4 degrees difference from pitching wedge to gap wedge, 4 degrees form gap wedge to sand wedge , and 4 degrees form sand wedge to lob wedge.
The range of wedges available from Golfbuyitonline includes Titleist Vokey Design 200 Series Wedges, Callaway X-Tour Vintage Wedges, Mizuno MX-Series Wedges and many more. Titleist Vokey Design 200 Series are available in two distinct finishes Chrome and Oil Can. Chrome wedges provide a classic chrome finish with a Tour-preferred, reduced glare satin appearance. The Oil Can finish is cosmetically unique due to the hot oil oxide process that wears off over time, leaving a soft feeling wedge with a raw finish. Callaway X-Tour Vintage Wedges allow for exceptional touch and feel around the greens. There is also a Satin Chrome version available, but the Vintage version is the preferred choice of many golfers. Mizuno MX-Series Wedges features a solid power bar and impact cavity pad which enhance the MX-Series’ exceptionally solid feel without sacrificing stability or ease of use.
Wedges are a very useful club, but don’t limit yourself to just one, remember you can carry up to 14 clubs so don’t under equip yourself. Golf Wedges
If you are still one of those golfers who is still only carrying one wedge in your golf bag you are basically throwing away strokes to your golfing competitors. You have to add the benefits of a better wedge to your arsenal to succeed and lower your scores.
There are four types of wedges to use when golfing: the pitching wedge, the sand wedge, the lob wedge and the gap wedge. While your golf club set may come with other wedges, these are the most important and widely used when golfing. Wedges are smaller than other clubs so the golfer can get closer to the ball to make a short shot. Wedges are not meant for long distances, but rather for height and short shots that get the ball to the green.

Golfbuyitonline’s range of Nike wedges includes the fantastic Nike SV Tour Wedges which have classic profiles and grinds which provide a clean look with maximum versatility.
